Priceless Gifts

Blog
A priceless gift.

Imagine if someone gave you a priceless gift for free that you did nothing good to deserve. A priceless gift for free that changed your life and the lives of others around you for the better, week after week. Well, what if after a few years you took this gift for granted and began criticising it, looking for flaws. Are you criticising the gift or the person that gave you the gift?

Well, what if the priceless gift wasn't an object but instead a person? What if that priceless person from the time they entered your life changed your life and the lives of others around you for the better, week after week and they did all this for free, at no cost to you. What if after a while you began taking this person for granted and began criticising them, looking for flaws? Are you criticising them or the person that put them in your life?

The person responsible for putting that person in your life is the same Creator that brought you into being. The same Creator that made you and knitted you together in your Mother's womb. When you criticise and take for granted the people you have been freely blessed with, you criticise and take for granted the Creator that also made you.

Who is to blame for this change of heart? The person given to you freely who changes your life and the lives of others around you? The Creator who made them and planned their lives out from the beginning of time so others would be blessed through them? Or is it you? Is it time you went back to the Creator and thanked him for all the people he has put freely into your life and apologised to the ones you criticised and found flaws.

My little boy sang a song in his graduation from nursery this week 'Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away. Love is something if you give it away, you'll keep on having more'. Is it time we all loved more and realised none of us are perfect, we are all flawed. Loving others means you overlook flaws because you are flawed too. Who are we as flawed people to judge anyone else who is flawed? Surely that's up to the Creator, the same one who made you. The same one who made the people you are blessed to have in your life, the people who change your life and the lives of others around you for the better, week after week. Let's love like it's something to give away and not love ourselves more than others. Time to love our priceless people gifted to us.

I have my proof, it's the Word of God.

Just before the weekend a colleague asked me if I really believed that God made the Earth in 6 days when Science says that the Earth was created differently. I mumbled a bit and gave some feeble answer that I had heard someone give before,
"Well, I think the 6 days of creation maybe could mean 6 periods of time rather than our earthly days of 24 hours"
was what I said. I went home, read the parts of Genesis that talk of creation and there and then I thought it's about time I stopped watering down my faith and God's amazingness to fit in with what science and society tells me about earth and history. How could I say that a 'day' at the beginning of the Bible could mean an unspecific period of time rather than a 24 hour period and then say that later in the Bible when Jesus walked the Earth a 'day' then definitely meant 24 hours. Surely I was picking and choosing what I wanted to believe and allowing what amazingness I read in the Bible to be watered down by what Scientists say is their 'proof'. I have my proof, it's the Word of God, they have their proof - machine readings. The Bible says in Genesis after each day of creation 'Evening came and then morning.' That surely says that the days of creation were earthly days not periods of time. No longer will I water down my faith or change what I think the Bible says to fit in with what Scientists say. I have my proof, it's the Word of God.

Trying to be everything at once.

Well,I never thought I'd ever be the type that would be a blogger but a friend of mine recently started one and I have since become secretly addicted to catching up with her latest goings on via her blog. So,after some weeks,I have been wondering whether if I ever had a blog what on earth would I write about? Would anyone really be interested anyway and would I really want people in my friends and family to actually read it? I have still not worked out the answers to those questions but somehow find myself creating a blog nevertheless!! Maybe by tomorrow I will have deleted this and put it down to a moment of madness! We'll see.

So,to create a blog you have to have a name for it so as you can see mine is 'trying to be everything at once' - I hope I remember this name when I try to sign back in tomorrow! I chose this name after thinking "well, who am I??' So,I thought I am a typical girl.....actually can I as a 31 year old still call myself a 'girl'??.... 'woman' sounds a bit oldish....'lady' is well just too posh....'female' just means I'm not a man...... 'girl' it is! Anyway, as I was saying, I chose the name of this blog after realising that I am a typical girl living in the 21st century trying to be everything that society expects me to be all at once. I feel pressure to be the best mum, the perfect wife, the best example of a Christian, the one who serves without moaning at church, the owner of the cleanest home, the best looking mum in the school yard, the friend that's always there, the employee most deserving of promotion, the cooker of the healthiest meals, the woman that doesn't let her looks go, the wife that always supports her husband by keeping the home and family in order, etc, etc. However the truth is I never feel like I attain any of these!! The typical life of a girl living in the 21st century,eh - TRYING TO BE EVERYTHING AT ONCE. The perfect name for a blog!
